"Unraveling My Purple Sweater" Art Exhibit

"Unraveling My Purple Sweater" Art Exhibit

"Unraveling My Purple Sweater: The Beginning of my Journey Through Depression."

Amy is an artist, teacher and mental health advocate. Art was always been a constant in her life even as a little girl. After graduating from Smith College in 1998 with a BA in Mathematics, she spent 6 years teaching high school algebra and geometry. As a teacher, her creativity was focused on her classroom and her art became a second priority to her students. Then after several hospitalizations, Amy was finally treated for chronic depression, anorexia nervosa, and anxiety disorder and borderline personality disorder. As part of her recovery, she has realized that her calling was to be different sort of educator. Creative expression allows her to engage the community in conversations that are not whispered in secrecy, gently educating about mental illness while also nurturing broken spirits. She hopes you will join her in this mission on November 10th.

"Part of my journey has been to put my feelings onto paper. But even greater than that, I have been called to share these experiences. In an effort to connect with others, I have compiled these drawings and thoughts into a book and a traveling art show." - Amy Kinney

Amy will be available to talk about her art, her story, and will be selling select art prints and her book at this event.
