SOTW: We Walk Together
This painting was created by one of our young Paint4Peace™ Student/Artists at a recent class held at Moses Brown School as part of a school-wide Paint4Peace™ initiative focused on creating awareness for Illuminations, the school’s annual fundraising campaign. The greater message of the Paint4Peace™ initiative is to raise awareness for mental health and show how art - in this case painting - is an accessible creative outlet to help people of all ages find Peace of Mind.
That day we were teaching more than 200 children! This particular painting was created in a 5th-grade class of over 45 students, our largest undertaking in a classroom to date! Our assignment that day was to create an interpretation of “What Does PeaceLove Mean to You?" What stood out about this particular image and artist were the two things that are at the core of what Paint4Peace™ is all about. First, the touching and relevant interpretation of people hand in hand with the PeaceLove symbol shining in the sky above them. Second, and as important, was the dialogue I heard between the artist and the classmate painting next to her. I had walked over and commented to this shy, young artist and told her how cool I thought her concept was. Upon complimenting her creation, her classmate jumps up and enthusiastically announces to the group, “I told you that was a great idea!"
The young artist's reaction, ensuing smile, and beaming sense of pride was priceless....proving that anything is possible at PeaceLove Studios as long as you have a passion, curiosity and willingness to try.
Paint4Peace™ aims to offer its classes to people living with mental illness free-of-charge. To sponsor a student or an entire class, please follow this link http://www.peacelovestudios.com/donate
