My First Time Painting

When I was asked to do this piece, the first artwork I have ever done, I chuckled to myself, as I have never had an artistic inclination or ability. As I stared at four bright colors of paint in front of me, totally clueless, I thought about how I have always loved bright colors, and how Katie did a wonderful piece in which she used bright, wide stripes. I also thought about the career I chose; I have been a service provider for adults who struggle with severe mental illness, and I am passionate about helping people recove and lead more rewarding lives. These people have endured suffering, but have been very courageous and became people I admire tremendously, partly because the inspire others. Bright colors suited them and represent for me those who persist in their recovery. The different colors signify how individual and unique every person is, inherently beautiful and having dignity. And the PeaceLove symbols fit because people who struggle with mental illnesses need and deserve peace of mind and to be able to love themselves well. I also have to add that, to my surprise, creating the art work was a lot of fun! Paul Gorman
